Bandari not giving up on upsetting Horoya of Guinea

Confederation Cup representatives Bandari FC coach Bernard Mwalala is confident they can score at least twice at home to turn the tables against Horoya of Guinea when they host them on Sunday at Kasarani, Nairobi.

The Mombasa-based boys lost 4-2 to the Guinean side on Sunday and Mwalala believes the two away goals has boosted the team’s morale ahead of the return match.

In the game played at Conakry, veteran striker Aristide Bance scored a hat-trick in the 1st, 50th and 67th minute with Dramane Nikiema adding the fourth in the 16th minute for the Guinean team. Hassan Abdallah and William Wardi scored a goal each in the 28th and 45th minute for the dockers to put the tie at 2-2 at half time.

“It will be an uphill battle, but we have the class and firepower to turn the tables around in our favor,” said Mwalala in a post-match interview.

“We need to go for quick two goals to ‘kill’ the match. We know our opponents’ danger men,” said Mwalala adding that the most important thing was to score away goals, which they did.

The coach said they are determined to book a place in the lucrative group stage of the prestigious continental club competition and this can come true by finishing the job at home.

“We need to be in top form and beat them convincingly and avoid conceding on home soil,” said Mwalala.

“Horoya will come to Kenya to defend their win and will be under pressure. If we can score two goals away, it means we can score more at home. There is no need to panic. We are going to knock out these guys,” he added.

Bandari strikers William Wardi, Hassan Abdallah, Darius Msagha and Danson Namasaka if picked on Sunday need to make use of any chances that come their way.
