Gor Mahia dropped two crucial points in their bid to overtake leaders Tusker after being held to a barren draw by Sony Sugar in Awendo on yesterday.
The KPL champions may have been affected by their late arrival in Awendo on Tuesday night after a five-hour delay in Nairobi.
Tusker werere shocked by Thika United witha 2-0 drubbing while Western Stima thrashed Ushuru 4-0. It was the biggest win for Henri Omino’s side and will no doubt inspire their dreams of finishing in the top five.
Stima were lifted by goals from Fredrick Shimonyo, Wesley Kemboi, Keneth Muguna and Wesley Onguso.
Ken Kenyatta’s charges took off well in the match, with Liberian striker Roosevelt Blatty putting through Aziz Okaka but the latter blasted wide in the second minute. That miss inspired the visitors who grew in confidence as the match progressed.

In the 23rd minute, Onguso finally put the power men ahead after Ushuru goalkeeper Barnabas Tiema punched into his own net while trying to clear a corner kick. Two minutes later Stima’s pressure nearly bore fruit as Raymond Murugi missed a sitter. After that, Ushuru also had a few chances going begging as their opponents went to the break with a 1-0 advantage.
The match came to life once again at the hour mark when Stima were awarded a penalty after Herbert Kopany was brought down inside the Ushuru box. Kemboi converted from the spot as the power men stretched their lead. Then Muguna added the third in the 81st minute.
Things seemed to get worse for the tax men after Nelson Marosowe was sent off in the 89th minute. The gap was immediately felt as Stima scored their fourth goal from Shimonyo’s header.
Mathare United picked their second loss in a row after going down 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Complex. The slum boys are finding it increasingly difficult in the second leg of the KPL after a good start at the beginning of the season.
United scored first through Whyvonne Isuzza in the 41st minute - a goal they hung on to until the 75th minute when Andrew Kulecho equalised. Sunday Mutuku then scored late in the match to ensure Kakamega Homeboyz kept all three points at home.
Hosts Muhoroni Youth came from a goal down to force Ulinzi Stars to a one-all draw at the Muhoroni Complex. Lwamba Babeto scored from the spot after Daniel Otieno was brought down by Ulinzi defender Hamisi Abdala to make things equal for the host side in the 50th minute of the game.
At Nyayo, Laban Gambereko’s first half goal is all that Chemelil Sugar needed to beat relegation-threatened Nairobi City Stars. The former Tusker man received an incisive pass from Apollo Otieno on the half-hour mark in the box, to beat the advancing City Stars goalkeeper Ronnie Kagunzi.
In Mombasa, an injury time goal is what Bandari needed to beat former Premier League champions Sofapaka 1-0 in a Sportpesa Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club.
