Sh13 million ultra-modern school to benefit 500 kids

For a long time, traditional practices such as female genital mutilation and moranism, lack of learning facilities and human-wildlife conflicts have all conspired to make education for the Maa child a tall order.

The region is still grappling with a shortage of learning institutions despite the introduction of  free primary education.

This situation is however, set to change after Daekyo, a South Korean based company partnered with Good Neighbours, an international NGO, to construct a Sh13 million ultra modern school at Meguara area in Trans Mara West District.

The school referred to as Daekyo Eye Level School-Meguarra was at the weekend officially opened and is set to benefit more than 500 pupils.

According to Good Neighbours Kenya Country Director, Park Yung Won, the school will be fitted with the latest Information and Communication Technology  equipment.

Won said the school will be an information nerve centre, which will equip the learners with the relevant ICT skills besides serving as a communication nerve centre for the neighbourhood.

“We want to use education to improve the living standards of the local people and this can be done by imparting the relevant skills such as ICT to them,” said Won.
