Nakumatt unveils Sh15 million portable retail store

NAIROBI, KENYA: Nakumatt has formally unveiled Africa’s first portable retail store to provide shopping solutions during key special events in remote locations.
The 200 Square Feet store dubbed the: ‘Nakumatt on Wheels’ (NoW) will be housed in a 20Ft-shipping air-conditioned container and will be available for rapid deployment countrywide.
The pilot NoW store, developed at a cost of more than Shs15 million has been specially fabricated for deployment at special events, fundraising events including special operation locations such as military training fields, mining and oil exploration/drilling camps among others.
This weekend, the innovative store will open its doors ready to serve competitors and spectators attending the 25th Rhino Charge off road motoring event at a remote location in Kajiado County.

Speaking during a flag off session for the pioneer NoW Store at Nakumatt Headquarters, the firm’s, Business Development Manager Mr Neel Shah disclosed that containerised unit will stock a variety of retail products’ and is geared at providing retail convenience in remote locations.
“By introducing NoW, we are keeping up with our mission to provide retail convenience to our Smart shoppers even in remote locations,” Shah reiterated.
“NoW will also enable us to support various fundraising initiatives’ geared at environmental conservation by encouraging our customers to participate,” he added.
The NoW store will feature retail amenities including, computerised checkout tills and refrigeration units. The NoW store will also be supported by an external power generation unit and independent refrigeration truck to guarantee product freshness.
