CS Ruku leads relief efforts in Mwakirunge as government deepens grassroots outreach

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku led a humanitarian relief mission in Mwakirunge, Kisauni, Mombasa County, on Thursday, as part of the ongoing government efforts to support vulnerable households grappling with food insecurity.

The outreach, organized by the State Department for Special Programmes, targeted women and children facing acute hardship, distributing food and household essentials in one of the most impoverished areas of the Coast region.

CS Ruku, who was hosted by Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohammed and Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba, said the relief operation was part of a broader national strategy to entrench people-centered service delivery and social protection at the grassroots.

“What we are doing here is the embodiment of a government that listens, responds, and restores hope; we are integrating immediate relief with long-term solutions, linking today’s food assistance to tomorrow’s economic inclusion,” Ruku explained.

The mission is the latest in a series of outreach efforts led by the CS since he assumed office, and aligns with the Ministry’s Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative, a national service delivery transformation programme grounded in constitutional values of equity, transparency, and accountability.

The initiative, Ruku said, reflects the constitutional call under Chapter 232 for a responsive and ethical public service that goes beyond paperwork to deliver real change.

“This is the new face of service: not just policy, but presence. Not just promises, but action,” he added.

CS Ruku also touched on the contentious issue of land ownership in the area, pledging to work with the Ministry of Lands to address residents’ long-standing grievances.

“In the company of your MP, we will approach the Cabinet Secretary for Lands to initiate a process that will resolve your land issues,” he assured residents.
