Three suspected robbers including a woman narrowly escaped death after being saved from the charged lynch mob by officers from Nairobi’s Central Police Station.
An angry mob led by boda boda riders had caught up with the three suspects alleged to have robbed their victim of Sh320,000 while he was leaving a bank on Tuesday noon.
According to police, the suspects identified as Ahmed Shariff Gadhafi, 30, Veronica Musau, 33, and Jeremiah Murimi Mwaura, 34, were rushed to Mbagathi Hospital for treatment following the incident that occurred at University Roundabout in the city centre.
Police said the suspects had attempted to escape using a car after robbing Fredrick Otieno who had withdrawn cash from Cooperative Bank, Haile Selassie branch.

Otieno said the three who had parked their Toyota Voxy car at the entrance of the bank approached him and introduced themselves as Safaricom agents before grabbing him and taking all his money.
He told the police that he raised the alarm after the suspects intercepted him while leaving the bank and robbed him of Sh320,000.
Boda boda riders who were nearby pursued the suspects who tried to escape towards Uhuru Highway before catching up with them at around University Roundabout.
“With the city centre traffic jam, the suspect did not manage to escape and were cornered by the angry members of the public and boda boda riders.”
The angry mob descended on the suspects with stones and boulders beating them into a pulp before they were rescued by the police.
“The three men were saved by the police and taken to Mbagathi Hospital where they are currently being treated,” said the police report.
Their badly damaged vehicle was towed to Central Police Station.
Police however did not recover the said cash by the time they managed to pull the suspects from the mob.
