Athletics: Kirui and Gathuga win Forest race

Dennis Kirui and Milkah Gathuga are the winners of the inaugural edition of the Lucozade Forest Run held at Ngong Forest Sanctuary, Nairobi, yesterday.
Kirui beat William Kirui to claim the men’s title in 21km race, while Gathuga outsmarted Marieke Geurtsin the women’s race.
Wilson Kemboi finished third in the men’s race in the event that was also participated by cyclists. The fitness event was open to everyone.
Apart from the medals, the two winners walked home with a voucher worth Sh15,000 and merchandise each from organisers Lucozade.
Dennis and Gathuga will use the voucher to purchase sports gear and equipment of their choice worthy the amount at Nairobi Sports House.

First and second runners-up received Sh10,000 and Sh5,000 each respectively.
In cycling, Toby Blake emerged the winner after beating Julius Kaiguara and Dennis Gitonga.
Lindsay Karimi was declared the winner in the women’s category.
Suntory marketing manager Wanjiru Njenga said plans are underway to ensure they hold the competition three times a year as part of their nature and environment conservation programme.
“The energy drink is enjoyed well when someone has just finished a race or done something active,” said Njenga.
