Local motorists can now breathe with ease and worry less about the amount of money spent at filling stations, following the introduction of tabs to lower fuel consumption.

Green Fuel Tabs that have for the last 15 years been in use in the United States as a solution for high fuel consumption and incomplete combustion of fuels have hit the Kenyan market.

The tablet which, is a product of Green Fuel Technologies, is being distributed by Legacy Max, an international company with a presence in Africa.

According to Berry Odhiambo, the Africa director of the company, the tab has proved viable in improving fuel combustion and reduction of carbon emissions and deposits in car engines.

Kenya was the first port in Africa after Odhiambo introduced the product early this year. He claims he has since extended their business to 12 other African nations.

No wastage

“The tab is an organ-metallic catalyst that when dipped into the fuel tank dissolves and then helps the fuel to burn efficiently and completely. Less fuel is wasted and in this way, you get extra mileage and reduced pollution,” says Odhiambo.

He says that if properly and regularly used, tab can achieve fuel savings between 30 and 35 per cent, a reduction of about 70 per cent of toxic emissions, and reduced engine maintenance and wear.

“If you have fuel for a-100 kilometre distance and you put the right tab, you will cover about 130 kilometres with the same fuel. When you calculate the tab’s cost against the extra mileage, you’ll find that it is extremely economical,” Legacy Max marketing executive Wambui Mutamba says.

The tabs allow the combustion chambers and engine to run efficiently with less friction and heat emission, thus lowering fuel consumption. The heat emission is lowered from 600 degree Celsius to about 200 degree Celsius.

The green fuel tabs ranges from 0.4 grammes, half gramme, one gramme and 2.5 grammes. They are packed in sets of four, 10, five and six respectively.

Affordable packs

Mutamba says the products’ cost range from Sh400 to Sh1, 500 per set, and adds that the economical use is determined by the amount of fuel in the tank.

For instance it is estimated that Sh2, 300 (20 litres at Sh115) for 150 kilometres will require a 0.5 gramme tab that costs Sh400. At the end, giving an additional mileage of more than 30 kilometres that will save Sh3, 450.

“Most motorists have experienced the benefits of the tab but we insist that they adhere to the instructions, including proper maintenance of vehicles. The results can be amazing,” Odhiambo says.

Mutamba says that for saloon cars with 20 litres of fuel, the 0.5 gramme tab will be efficient, while 200-litre trucks should use the 2.5 gramme tab.

Festus Kitui, a city resident who has used the tabs on his four-wheel car, claims the car’s efficiency has improved: “I have realised I am not refueling as often as before.”

A number of local motorists in Nairobi are using the product and Odhiambo is targeting about 5 million motorists in Africa.
