Kenya was not the only country celebrating their new beauty queen, Idah Nguma, but our neighbours in Uganda were as well.
Ugandans took it to social media to express their joy after Leah Kalanguka was crowned Miss Uganda 2014/2015. The beauty, who is is defined as a woman of beauty and brains, beat 19 contestants to the title.
The pageant got a little bit interesting after it was rebranded to promote agriculture in the country and required the contestants to battle it out by milking cows and farm work as opposed to the normal glamourous catwalks on the runway. Many have compared her to Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong’o in terms of their complexion, intelligence and zeal for success.
“The youth will love agriculture because it goes hand in hand with beauty. Right now, farming is mostly done by the elderly women,” Kalanguka said after the ceremony.
Leah is a MUK Computer Engineer graduate and a former mushroom and poultry farmer.
The other winners of the pageant were; Sheilla Karungi – Miss Rising woman, Christine Tayebwa – Miss Popularity, Yasmin Taban – Miss Personality and Sheena Kyoriza – Miss Beach Beauty.
