NAIROBI: Kenya will host the Africa Fairtrade Convention next week in Nairobi. The convention, themed ‘Beyond the MDGs: Fairtrade as a driver of Sustainable Development Goals’, will take place from February 23 to 25 at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies. Farmers and agricultural workers, traders and policy makers from across the globe are expected to attend. Also to attend are small scale artisan gold miners from East Africa who will share their experiences.

Fairtrade Africa Executive Director Nyagoy Nyong’o said the convention would discuss how partnerships in trade contribute towards sustainable development goals and improve the livelihoods of farmers in Africa. “In the convention, we are offering a platform for producers, traders, policy makers, partner organisations and other stakeholders to discuss how in the partnership we all can improve value chains, trade relations and consequently improved livelihoods,” she said. The keynote speaker will be Mr Alessandro Tonoli, Trade Advisor to the European Union Delegation.
