Kindiki defends gov't projects in Mt Kenya, slams critics

President William Ruto's allies have stepped up their efforts to rejuvenate support in the Mt Kenya region.

On Friday, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led a group of UDA leaders to market their policies to the region as they outlined development projects designed to improve the resident's living standards.

Kindiki outlined that the government will not stop initiating projects designed to transform residents' living standards.

Speaking at Kigumo grounds during a social and economic programme initiated by Murang'a NGAAF, he attacked critics as they were out to sabotage development.

The government said modern markets and road construction programmes will be completed to transform the citizens' living standards.

The leaders present included Murang'a MPs' Betty Maina, Edwin Mugo (Mathioya), Sabina Chege among others.

On electricity, he said, the government has allocated Sh1.1 billion to connect 16,000 households with electricity.

"The government will continue transforming the residents' living standards. All the 15 markets under construction will be completed in six months," said Kindiki.

Kangari and Muthithi markets in Kigumo will be equipped with ICT hubs, to enable youth venture in business through transformation.

In matters of alcoholism, the DP ordered Murang'a County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha to crack down on dealers of illicit brews.

"The administrators must deal with those dealing with the substandard brews," said the DP.

He asked county governments to reduce the number of bars as they are more than the number of schools and churches combined.

In politics, the leaders said they will not stop demanding projects from the government.

They said It was disturbing that some leaders were fighting development.

Others were principal secretaries Elijah Mwangi and Alex Wachira of Youth and Energy respectively.

Roads to be considered for improvement are Kaharati/ Kangari and Kandara /Kangari described to be in a pathetic state.
