Former President Daniel arap Moi's family has donated Sh1 million to over 500 survivors of the Garissa University College terrorist attack in April.

The contribution was handed to them by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi at the Moi University Main Campus, where they were transferred after their institution was closed.

Gideon expressed optimism that the survivors would eventually overcome the trauma caused by the attack in which over 142 students were killed and several others are still nursing injuries.

"My presence here is to express our family's solidarity with the students because our hearts were touched by the incident. I am aware that a number of international donors have also made their contributions," said Gideon.

He praised the institution for making quick arrangements to accommodate the students and staff after the attack and also called on the Government to take security matters seriously.

Moi University Vice Chancellor Richard Mibey thanked the senator for the donation, and added that the money would benefit students who had not been given scholarships.
