Chairmen defy calls to attend AK meeting

Athletics Kenya (AK) regional chairmen and other elected officials yesterday defied calls by president Isaiah Kiplagat to attend a consultative meeting saying he mislead the public that the executive committee had agreed all was well in AK fratenity.

Instaed, speaking in Nakuru during a press conference regional chairmen and other elected officials led by vice-president Paul Mutwii said they held a meeting in the same town on Tuesday to follow-up on the recent elections and  athletes’ recommendations.

The officials want a Special General Meeting (SGM) to amend the AK constitution adding they issued a  21-day demand notice on August 23 to AK’s top leadership to have the special meeting.

“The AK affiliates will go ahead to hold a SGM with or without the AK national office convening it,” said Mutwii.

Mutwii said 15 members of national executive committee out of the total 16 who attended the meeting had vowed not to attend the consultative meeting called by AK boss which took place yesterday at Riadha House in Nairobi.

The also stated that the AK affiliates will meet at the expiry of the demand notice on September 13  to fix the date for a SGM.

“The issues affecting the AK should be finalised before the AK new season of 2013/2014 starting in November,” urged Mutwii.”

In attendance were David Okeyo, David Mieno, Paul Mutwii  (vice presidents) and Evans Bosire (Public Relations Officer).

Others were Nicholas Maswai (Prisons), Felix Ngara (Coast), Kimutai Ng’etich (Nakuru), David Atiti, Wachilwa John, Jafeth Kimei, Stephen Olemai (South Rift), Maurice Ochieng’, Edward Mwema (Univesities), Peninah Kinyua, Jonathan Kosgei (Police) Francis Afundi (Western),  Joseph Kinyala (Eastern). Peter Angwenyi (Nyanza South), Thomas Ongwacho (Nyanza North) and Pak Kariuki (Nairobi).
