As one of Nairobi’s lavish estates, with most of its roads covered in bougainvillea, it is little wonder that Kyuna estate has become one of the most sought after residential areas.
The area is mostly popular not only because of its serene environment but also the security, thanks to various senior government officials who reside within this neighbourhood.

Located north of Westlands between Waiyaki Way, Loresho Ridge and Kyuna Road with the main access road being the Lower Kabete Road, Kyuna itself is up-market with a few old fashioned houses with servants’ quarters, and new mansions being built in the area. Bordering the more up market suburbs such as Loresho and Spring Valley, the famous Kibarage slums spruced up to house the servants who service the needs of the residents in these hood.
The area is home to prominent figures and shares many of the same facilities with Spring Valley and Loresho such as the Aga Khan and MP Shah Hospitals, the Kyuna Academy, Kyuna Kindergarten, Nairobi School, the International School of Kenya, Peponi School and Aga Khan High School.
The shared social amenities include the Sarit Centre, the Westgate Mall and closer is the ABC place with its array of shops. The Vetlab Golf Club in Loresho is a favourite with the residents.
This estate has few apartments, but is dotted with a lot of mansions, double storey homes and villas with beautiful gardens shaded by trees.
However, with the new zoning system, Kyuna could be up for a massive opening and it will be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
Within the estate, a few older buildings can be spotted. Typically, the houses in this hood are lavish four to five bedroom mansions with sprawling gardens and tall trees offering clean, unpolluted air.
The selling price of each villa, according to real estate agents could cost up to Sh35 million with the rental figure for a five bedroom maisonette set on a mature manicured garden with a panoramic view, a swimming pool and including a large sitting room, fitted kitchen, a family room, a study, servants quarters and ample parking going for up to Sh250,000 per month.
