The Korean government in partnership with Bungoma County has pumped Sh1.8 billion toward the supply of clean water to five constituencies.

The projects will be funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica), with Bungoma county contributing Sh150 million. The project is dubbed 'Koica Phase (III) water project'.

The water project will benefit Mt Elgon, Kimilili, Tongaren, Webuye East and Webuye West constituencies that were excluded from the Koica Phase (I) and Koica Phase (II) water projects.

"When the project is complete, about 310,000 people from the five constituencies will have access to clean water," said Governor Ken Lusaka while receiving the Koica Phase III water project pre-visibility study report.

Dr Lusaka noted that the project will be implemented in three years as from 2025.

The Korean government, in partnership with the county government, have already completed the 'Mt Elgon-Mayanja-Kibabii Complex Water Project', which has seen more than 100,000 residents from Bungoma County access clean water.

The Korean government injected Sh600 million grant into the project that started three years ago.

Residents of Mt Elgon, Kabuchai and Kanduyi constituencies were the first beneficiaries of the project.

Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) oversaw the implementation of the project.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency Country director Janghee Im, while inspecting the two projects, said that, "all we want is to see to it that Bungoma residents have access to clean water."
