Fierce battle for league play-offs slots serves off today at Nyayo

Fierce battles are expected at the Nyayo Volleyball court this weekend as teams ranked sixth to ninth battle for the remaining three play-offs spots as the 2024-2025 regular season of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National Women's League ends.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Kenya Army, Prisons Nairobi, and Vihiga Volleyball Club will have everything to play for as they seek to secure their places in the last eight.

KDF currently ranked sixth with 12 points from four wins and four losses will be out to make the best out of their remaining two clashes to secure their place in the play-offs.

The soldiers will today take on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in hunt of their fifth victory.

They will play their last match on Sunday against Maranatha Volleyball Club, with two wins cementing their place in the top eight.

Their Kenya Army compatriots, who are seventh with seven points, also have two matches on the cards. They must win the two encounters to better their chances of being among the teams that will face off in the knockouts.

They face a daunting task against former champions Kenya Prisons, who already sealed their place in the play-offs but will be looking to finish in the top three. Tomorrow the service women will take on Young Spikers in their last tie.

A double straight sets victory will give them a one-point advantage over eighth-placed Prisons Nairobi, who have six points, and the best they can get is six points if they win their two ties in straight sets. Prisons Nairobi will play Young Spikers and Vihiga today and tomorrow.

The current top teams face a threat from ninth-placed Vihiga who have three matches at hand. Vihiga could deny one of the sides a play-offs slot if they give their best this weekend and bag maximum points.

Vihiga will tackle Postbank, who are fifth on the table with 14 points and are guaranteed a place in the first eight, whether they win or not. Tomorrow, they will play Prisons Nairobi before ending their season on Sunday with a duel against Kenya Prisons.

Defending champions KCB Bank who are currently second with 23 points will be looking to consolidate their spot in the top three when they take on Maranatha tomorrow.

Table leaders Kenya Pipeline who are determined to reclaim the title that has eluded them for years will face off with DCI in their last encounter on Sunday. Pipeline have been in great form and are the only side that remain unbeaten with 25 points from nine matches.

Former holders Kenya Prisons who are third with 18 points will be pushing for a top two finish when they clash with Kenya Army DCI and Vihiga from today to Sunday. Maximum points from the three ties will see them secure 27 points.
