Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal are not thinking about signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic “at the moment” - and then admitted the Swedish superstar is “having a great season.”

Paris Saint-Germain striker Ibrahimovic, 34, wants a transfer to the Premier League next season and is keen on joining a London club which has put Arsenal and Chelsea on alert.

Ibrahimovic will be a free agent this summer and Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the veteran striker.

Gunners boss Wenger said: “Look, at the moment, no. We are not on that case. We have other worries at the moment. It's short-term. We are not on Zlatan's case. But even at 34, he's had a great season at PSG.

“Look, at the moment you can understand my priority ahead of Everton is not the transfer market on signings next season. I'm just surprised by the name you've thrown at me. We're not thinking of signing anybody at the moment.”

Wenger admitted they were keen on signing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku before the Belgian joined Chelsea.

“Yes, we knew him from Belgium, but he went to Chelsea. He's developing well. Year after year he's better. His finishing his better, technical link up play is better,” said Wenger.

“He is promising a big career. It's always a sign when the numbers are better year after year. He went out on loan to Everton and I did expect him to go back to Chelsea. After that, we were never on the case.”

Lukaku has been in red-hot form this season but Wenger laughed when asked whether they could stop the Everton striker.

“Look, we've just played against Neymar, Messi and Suarez,” said Wenger. “He'll give us another headache. Our defenders should take encouragement from the performance they put in against Barcelona.”
