Kenya National Chess Premier League defending champions KCB Chess Club continued its dominance in the league, delivering double wins against Nakuru and Knights Chess Clubs in the Premier League matches played at KCB Sports Club.
The weekend clash commenced with KCB squaring off against the Nakuru Chess Team, with the bankers managing to clinch a narrow 3-2 victory, securing 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss.
KCB's Joseph Methu's intense board battle against Sasha Mogeli ended in a hard-fought draw, while Ben Nguku, on board two, demonstrated his strategic brilliance by defeating Chege Kairu of Nakuru Chess Club with precision and determination.
Philip Singe, a stalwart for the KCB, delivered the banker's second win of the encounter, defeating Chege Lee of Nakuru Chess Club. Meanwhile, Joyce Nyaruai faced off against the equally talented Mike Mwangi of Nakuru Chess Club, and the match ended in a gripping draw, showcasing the remarkable skills of both players.
KCB's Ricky Sang encountered a fierce challenge from Samuel Ngila of the Nakuru Chess Club. Despite his valiant effort, Ricky Sang conceded to his opponent's skills, giving the visiting team their only win in their morning encounter.
In the day's second match, KCB secured a triumphant three wins and a well-fought draw against Knight Chess Club, with just a solitary setback.
Nguku Ben led the pride with a brilliant victory over Muchiri Thuku Nephat, while Martin Njoroge engaged in a captivating draw against Michuki Francis.
Jackson Kamau added to the tally with a win against Nderi Christian, and Gloria Jumba shone with her victory against Obonyo Abigael.
Though Ricky Sang faced a formidable challenge in Munene Martin, the KCB managed to carry the day by downing the two opponents of the day.
KCB's Ben Nguku Said, "We had a nerve-wracking encounter today, especially against Nakuru Chess Club. It's one of the strong teams in the Chess Premier League now, but I'm happy we managed to win. With less than 3 games remaining until the end of the season, we are concentrating on winning a game at a time as we are also facing tough competition against Equity, which is currently at the top of the table."
