Inspired by recent results on the local scene, Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluya believes his team has what it takes to win the SportPesa  Premier League (SPL) this season.

Back to back victories over KPL champions Gor Mahia and a narrow elimination from the Confederations Cup by Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko is a mark of Shark’s performance this season.

The team face winless Mount Kenya United this afternoon at Machakos Stadium hoping to pick another win in their quest for glory.

“We are poised to do well this season. Having finished third and then sixth previously, winning the league should be one of our priorities this season,” he said.

“Despite being edged out of the Confederations Cup, I can say the experience has made my players better. They are more confident and we should see something better this season,” he said.

Muluya says playing Mount Kenya United today will probably be the team’s toughest match given that their opponents are looking for the first win.

Elsewhere league leaders Mathare United face new comers KCB at Kasarani Stadium this afternoon hoping to extend their stay at the top.

Mathare United edged out Rangers 2-1 in their last match in Nakuru to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, defending champions Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay is worried about the team’s attack as they face Chemelil Sugar today.

“We have not been taking our chances and we need to start doing that. We create so many opportunities, but we cannot put them away. One of the reasons for the situation is the fact that we are playing so many matches.

“Generally, we are not playing badly and I am confident that we will come up strongly soon as we learn to balance our fixtures,”  he said.
