It was a weekend full of surprises, shock and drama in the Kenya Cup and Kenya Rugby Union Championship as both league leaders KCB and Kisii RFC’s unbeaten runs ended.
Homeboyz ended KCB’s 12-game unbeaten run after stunning them 33-24 at the KCB Sports Club thanks to last minute try from substitute Augustine Lugonzo.
It was the Deejays’ first ever victory at Ruaraka since they joined Kenya Cup in 2013.
The victory saw the fourth-placed Homeboyz take their points tally to 34 as leaders KCB (52) got a losing bonus point.
Homeboyz coach Paul Murunga couldn’t hide his joy after watching the Deejays stun his former club.

“We had never beaten KCB at Ruaraka since we joined Kenya Cup in 2013. And being a former KCB player, it is a sweet win for me and my players,” Murunga told Feverpitch.
“The win shows how competitive the top four race is. Save for KCB, all the other three teams won. We are just trying to catch up after a slow start to the season. But we still have a game in hand against Kenyatta University.
“We dominated the game especially in the set pieces and the back line. We also had a very strong bench. It was a very tight game, but we looked much fitter than our opponents,” he added.
Mean Machine also ended their 11-game losing run after beating Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 16-10 as champions Kabras Sugar continued with their dominance over Strathmore Leos, thumping the scholars 35-17 in Kakamega.
Second-placed Kenya Harlequin (49) bounced back from their shock defeat to Mwamba to beat visiting Nakuru RFC 33-14 at RFUEA as Nondescript hammered relegation threatened Western Bulls 30-18.
Mohammed Omollo was the hero of the day bagging 20 points as Impala beat Mwamba RFC 40-33 in a thrilling encounter at Impala club.
Samson Onsomu, Leon Adongo, Derrick Mayar and Stephen Juma scored the other tries for the Gazelles.
Kulabu’s tries were grounded by Kenyan international Collins Injera (2), Edwin Machanje (2) and Billy Odhiambo, his second since joining the club from Strathmore Leos.
However, the high scoring game couldn’t end without drama as Impala were left with 12 men after the trio of Joel Omer, Tyson Okoth and Antony Orege were all sin binned.
Despite the hard fought win, Impala remain fifth on the log with 40 points, nine ahead of seventh-placed Mwamba.
It was the same scenario in the Kenya Rugby Union Championship as leaders Kisii RFC suffered their second loss of the season after falling 20-6 to hosts Mombasa RFC.
South Coast Pirates beat visiting Kisumu RFC 10-9 at the St. Joseph’s Primary School in Ukunda as USIU tamed hosts JKUAT Cougars with a 41-19 win.
Visiting Moi University were awarded a 24-0 walk over against Thika after the hosts failed to secure a venue to stage the fixture.
