Kenya Cup: Omollo stars as KCB edge Quins to maintain unbeaten run

Andy Cole Omollo delivered a standout performance as KCB RFC extended their unbeaten run in the 2024/25 Kenya Cup season, overpowering Kenya Harlequins 38-16 in a thrilling Saturday afternoon clash at the KCB Sports Club, Nairobi.
Quins started strongly, with kicker Evin Asina slotting in a penalty 10 minutes into the match to hand the visitors a 3-0 lead.
However, the bankers swiftly responded, with Elvis Olukusi crossing over for the first try. Michael Wamalwa followed with another try, which Austin Sikutwa successfully converted, pushing KCB ahead to 12-3.
Asina added another penalty for Quins, but Omollo ensured KCB tightened their grip on the contest with a well-executed try. Sikutwa once again converted, giving the hosts a comfortable 19-6 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw KCB extend their dominance, with Olukusi and Sikutwa getting on the scoresheet again.

Quins fought back with tries from Charles Kinyanjui and Dave Mwangi, but it was not enough to match the relentless pace of the bankers. KCB sealed the victory with a commanding 38-16 scoreline.
Speaking after the match, KCB Head Coach Oliver Mang'eni praised his side's resilience and squad depth.
"We continued our fantastic run today. We have a great boost from players returning from the Shujaa 7s, and we will integrate them into the team gradually. We are also giving opportunities to players who have been working hard in training, which allowed Captain Jacob Ojee to rest today. The goal is to have all players ready for the Kenya Cup."
KCB forward Davis Chenge, who captained the side in Ojee's absence, acknowledged areas needing improvement. "We conceded some easy tries today, but we will work on tightening our defence in the next games."
With this victory, KCB have now gone seven matches unbeaten in the 2024/25 Kenya Cup season. The bankers will shift their focus to the knockout stages of the Enterprise Cup next weekend, where they will face Nondescripts before meeting them again on February 15 in the Kenya Cup.
