Water Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru has asked the Muslim community in Nakuru county to list all the mosques and madrasas that do not have title deeds.

Speaking at the National Cereals of Produce Board depot in Nakuru city over the weekend where he distributed foodstuff to the Muslim community, Njeru noted that about 110 mosques and madrasas in the region do not have title deeds.

The former Lands CS, while flagging off foodstuff for vulnerable families as they begin the holy month of Ramadan, promised to safeguard mosques across the country from land grabbers.

Njeru donated 400 bags of beans, 160 bags of rice, cooking oil, canned beef, and spaghetti to needy Muslims within the 11 sub-counties in Nakuru

"We want to secure the mosques and churches which have no title deeds. We should not ignore it because we may lose churches and mosques to land grabbers," he said.

At the same time the CS said water shortage is a major problem in Nakuru because it has no rivers and climate change has further worsened the situation.

He urged residents to stop logging and plant trees in line with President William Ruto's initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

"Itare dam has been revived as it will save Nakuru from water problems. The government has prioritised the dam. Also, the Chemususu dam is complete, after pipes are laid, it will provide water to Nakuru and Baringo," said Njeru.

The CS revealed that the government is planning to sink 10 boreholes near Nakuru High School to end water shortage.

Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara assured Muslims of security during the holy month of Ramadhan.
