A Nakuru man has sued a betting company for failing to credit into his account over Sh500,000 he allegedly won after correctly predicting eight matches.

David Juma filed the suit against Shop and Deliver LTD T/A Betika before Nakuru Small Claims Court Resident Magistrate Edward Oboge seeking Sh500,000 and damages for breach of contract following football matches he had predicted correctly.

Juma claims he had successfully predicted the matches on February 17, 2023.

"On February 17, 2023, the respondent advertised a DAILY SABABISHA 3WAY JACKPOT of Sh500,000 in their platform and invited customers to predict eight football matches at a wager of Sh10. The customer who could correctly predict the matches was entitled to the ultimate cash prize of Sh500,000," read the suit in part.

Juma claimed to have placed a bet on his Betika Account mobile number and the respondent acknowledged receipt of the bet.

On February 18, Juma eagerly logged into the Betika Account to confirm if the money had been credited which was not the case.

He noted that his bet had been marked as lost. Upon scrutiny, he noted that they had indicated Betika had erroneously denied him his entitlement.

"Upon perusal of his bet slip, he noted that the respondent had indicated that he had lost the bet. Upon close scrutiny, he discovered that the respondent had erroneously indicated the results of one match to deny him his entitlement," read the document.

Efforts by Juma to reach out to the alleged betting company via social media and phone calls demanding for a settlement were in vain.

"Having spent time, energy and bundles to analyse the games, I feel betrayed by Betika outrightly denying my win," Juma said in an affidavit.

Betika, however, is yet to file a response on the matter.

The case will be mentioned on May 8.
