Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday paid a courtesy call on former President Daniel arap Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.

Kalonzo, who was accompanied by his son and East African Legislative Assembly member Kennedy Musyoka, Senators Enock Wambua (Kitui), Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni) and Kajiado Central MP Kanchory Memusi, was received by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and MPs William Kamket (Tiaty) and Silas Tiren (Moiben).

They held a one-and-half hour meeting during which the former President called on the leaders to unite, according to a statement released by his office.

Mzee Moi urged the leaders to be honest in their leadership, adding that they should forge friendship rather than disintegration because the future of the country is in their hands.

Moi told the leaders that they have many years ahead to help the people.

“Some of you will be presidents and ministers in charge of the country. You need to take time and know the whole country and develop friendship. Take care of the people, be united as unity is all that is required,” he said.

Kalonzo thanked Mzee Moi for standing with him and his family when he lost his father.

He thanked Moi for giving him an opportunity to serve in his government, which he says horned his leadership skills.

Excellent spirit

“We were received with generosity here at Kabarak and Mzee Moi is in excellent spirit. He gave us good advice on national unity and even advised the young leaders on how to work slowly towards attaining the highest level in leadership,” said Kalonzo in a press briefing.

He lauded the call by Moi for national unity, especially at such a time of building bridges.

He said Moi played a major role in uniting and bringing Kenyans together and as such, young leaders have a lot to learn from him.

Moi received two goats from Kalonzo as a gift.

The visit by Kalonzo comes barely a week after he took up his new position as the head of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) on peace in South Sudan.

Other leaders who have visited Moi in the recent past are President Uhuru Kenyatta, opposition leader Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Hasan Joho, Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
