Ruto appoints veteran journalist Tom Mshindi as KBC Board chairperson

President William Ruto has appointed Tom Mshindi as the chairperson of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Board.

Mshindi, a veteran journalist and manager, will serve as the chair for the next three years, effective immediately.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act and section 4 (1) (a) of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Tom Mshindi Nyamancha to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Board, for three years, with effect from January 19, 2024," read the Gazette Notice.

With a bachelor's degree in journalism and a post-graduate diploma in mass communication from the University of Nairobi, Mshindi has over 25 years of experience in the media and communication industry.

Mshindi started as a journalist at Nation Media Group and later rose through the ranks serving in managerial positions including Standard Group CEO where he served for three years.

He also served as the Editor-in-Chief, Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Managing Director at Nation Media Group.

In his line of duty, Mshindi became the Media Owners Association in Kenya vice-chair twice, and worked at UNICEF as the communications manager and editor, serving in New York and West Africa.

Apart from his degree and post-diploma qualifications, Tom Mshindi holds two AMP certificates from Strathmore Business School and IESE in New York, among other professional qualifications.

He replaces Benjamin Maingi whose appointment has been revoked.
