Donald Kipkorir, the lawyer of IEBC Commissioner, Irene Masit has refuted reports suggesting that the embattled polls officer has resigned from her position.

Reports surfaced online on Thursday afternoon making the claims about Masit, who is the only commissioner yet to resign out of the four senior IEBC officials set to be investigated by a tribunal.

Earlier Thursday, Commissioner Francis Wanderi became the third of the four embattled commissioners to tender his resignation, saying the tribunal had a pre-determined outcome.

He maintained he was innocent over his conduct in the August 9, 2022 General Election.

Wanderi and three other commissioners, Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang'aya and Irene Masit, have been accused of attempting to change the will of Kenyans after opposing IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati's declaration of William Ruto as the winner of the August 9, 2022 presidential election.

So far, Cherera, Nyang'aya and Wanderi have quit the commission in letters addressed to President Ruto.

The only commissioner yet to resign is Masit. Her lawyer Donald Kipkorir told The Standard on Thursday afternoon, December 8, that "my client will not resign from her position. The viral reports on her resignation are false".

The Standard reached Masit for comment, but her phone was offline by the time of publishing this story.

Masit had filed a petition before a Nairobi court seeking to stop the Justice Aggrey Muchelule-led tribunal from investigating her.

The court will issue its directive on the petition later Thursday.
