The administration at Ngara Girls School in Nairobi has come out to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of a student in the school last week.

It is claimed the Form One learner identified as Laurine Ekala died by suicide following issues back home. Ekala succumbed to injuries after allegedly jumping from the first floor of her dormitory on November 15, 2022.

She died at the Aga Khan Hospital where she had been rushed. According to the school's principal Dr Beatrice Ndiga, the learner left two notes explaining the motive behind her decision to take her life.

In a letter dated November 17, Dr Ndiga said the deceased had sought advice from her colleagues on ways of how she could end her life.

In two suicide notes found in her belongings, the girl allegedly said she was not willing to go back home due to differences between her parents.

''Two notes were found in the students' bag stating that without the father staying with them, she had no desire to live. She had enquired from a student earlier how one can take their lives if they wanted to die,'' Ndiga said.

In the second note addressed to her mother, Ekala indicated that she was upset about the treatment she received after her parents had fought.

''Another note was found on the students' pillow written to the mother stating how hurt she was when the mother chased her away when she went to console her after a fight with the father,'' said Dr Ndiga.
