Elfyn Evans of Toyota Gazoo Racing has eclipsed his teammate Sebastien Ogier on the Safari Rally leaderboard after the first round of the three stages completed early this morning.

The Welsh now tops the leaderboard in 42:06.9 followed by Ogier, who has clocked 42:15.4 so far.

The stages completed by the drivers today include Loldia 1, a 19.17km won by former WRC champion Sebastien Loeb in 14:18.8, Geothermal 1 (11:68km), won by series leader Kalle Rovanpera in 6:44.2 and Kedong 1(31.25km) that also went to Rovanpera in 17:29.9.

Loldia is full of wooded tracks, Geothermal has a stunning backdrop with constant plumes of geothermal vents set off against a bright Kenyan sky while Kedong is one of the best fan stages in the rally.

The drivers will repeat the stages in the afternoon.
