Boxing: Okoth leads Kenya team in Congo

Experienced light Nick Okoth and light heavyweight Elly Ajowi lead the National Boxing Team twelve boxers for the African qualifiers of the World Boxing Championships that boxes-off in Congo Brazzaville from tomorrow to June 24.

At long last, the team flew out to the Central African country on Friday morning after Boxing Association of Kenya received funding from the government for the championships whose qualifiers will take part in the World Boxing Championships in Hamburg, Germany in September.

The squad included ten male and two women boxers.

They were light fly Shaffi Bakari (Kenya Police), fly Simon Mulinge (Kenya Defence Forces), bantam Martin Oduor (Police), light Nick Okoth (KDF), light welter Victor Odhiambo (KDF), welter Blackmoses Mathenge (KDF), Middle John Kyalo (Kenyatta National Hospital), light heavyweight Elly Ajowi (Police), heavy Tobias Okeyo (Police) and superheavyweight Fred Ramogi (KDF).

The women boxers included Christine Shisoka and Elizabeth Akinyi.
