The national women’s football team Harambee starlets skipper Ann Aluoch is elated following her appointment as the national under-20 women coach.

Aluoch will take the responsibility and will be assisted by another midfielder, Jackline Akoth, who featured for women premier league side Makolanders FC last season.

The tactician has been mandated to pick her best team from the 40 players that reported to camp on Tuesday ahead of their international friendly match against Jordan later in September.

According to a statement sent to media houses concerning the formation of the national junior team, the effort aims at growing women football in the country.

Aluoch said: “It’s a surprise. It’s a big honour to take on a national team and I thank the federation for this chance and for the trust they have in me. I feel motivated and I know I’m capable of delivering. We will work together as a technical bench to make sure we deliver positive results.”

Aluoch, who has been a coach at Street Revolution for five years, has an advanced coaching certificate.

Commenting on the same, FKF president Nick Mwendwa said the federation was committed to developing the game at all levels.

“It’s our belief that the national under-20 women team will offer the much-needed transition for young players to join the Harambee Starlets, something that has been lacking in the past.

“We also feel it’s an opportunity for women to step into leadership positions and take up roles that have in the past been held by men.”
