Seven more die of Covid-19, positivity rate at 22.6pc

The Ministry of Health has reported seven more Covid-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours.

This now pushes the Covid-19 death toll in the country to 5,401.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, a majority of the deaths recorded thus far have been among elderly patients (3 133).

“One of the deaths happened in the last 24 hours, while the other six were late death reports after facility audits done in December [2021] and January,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

At the same time, the positivity rate dropped to 22.6 per cent after 2,402 people out of a sample size of 10,638 tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

“Total confirmed positive cases are now 302,134 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,056,954,” said the Health minister.

Additionally, 1,982 patients have recovered from the disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 258, 533.

Nairobi accounts for the biggest bulk of new patients (1,000). Siaya (221), Uasin Gishu (160), Mombasa (108) and Nakuru (97), rounding out the five most affected counties.

Kenya has thus far vaccinated 10.2 million people against Covid-19, with 4.27 million people fully inoculated, while 5.91 million are partially vaccinated.
