Patel crowned Nyanza Mug of the Month champ

Amrish Patel was crowned the winner of the May Babies Monthly Mug after beating a field of over 50 golfers at Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu on Saturday

With a refreshing breeze from Lake Victoria, Patel shot an impressive 68 nett to take home the top prize.

“It was an enjoyable fairway where everything went in for me like I had planned. I am happy to win,” said Patel after being crowned champion.

The event, one of the club’s monthly tournaments, continues to attract golfers from across the region including Kakamega, Eldoret, Kericho, Kisii, Eldoret among others.

According to Nyanza Golf Club captain Griffin Owino, these monthly mugs have played a key role in reviving the sport in Kisumu.

“Our membership is growing steadily and the monthly mugs have helped us create more excitement around golf,” said Owino.

“These events give our members something to look forward to. They bring people together, especially new golfers who are just starting out. We’re seeing more interest now than ever before.”

In Division A, Rosemary Obura emerged top after scoring 68 nett. Tom Ayumbi followed closely in second place with 71.

Division B saw Despak Sohanlal shine with a score of 68 to claim t top spot, while Nicholas Odhiambo finished as the runner-up with 70.

In Division C, Otieno Herick walked away with the win after carding 74 nett. Anne Ochola was just one shot behind, finishing with 75 to take second place.

Dominic Omolo had the best score of the day, returning 62 nett to win the sponsor’s category.

Senior golfer B.S. Patel showed he still has the touch, finishing top in the senior category with a steady 74, while promising youngster Max Orina took home the junior winner’s prize with a 65.

The ball pool prize was shared by Otieno, Tom, Njumbozo, Hezekiah Elvis, Nicholas Odhiambo, and Neepak Sohanlal, each receiving four balls for their efforts.
