Lindijer, Kanyi rule Railway Invitational golf tournament

The talented duo of Margaret Lindijer and Evelyn Kanyi emerged as the winners of the Safari-themed Railway Invitational held over the weekend at the nine-hole Kenya Railway Golf Club.

The event was played under the Greensomes format, with handicap calculated at 60% of the lower index and 40% of the higher index.

The two returned a winning score of 47 stableford points to claim the bragging rights during the tournament which saw the absence of most elite lady golfers who were competing at the Muthaiga Open.

The host Lady Captain, Virginia Munyao, noted: "The choice of a tourism-themed outfit highlights Kenya's safari heritage, aiming to showcase the country beyond its global reputation in athletics and promote its tourism sector."

Taking second place was the pair of Phyllice Gitumbi and Priscilla Githua, who played off a combined handicap of 32 and finished with a score of 41 stableford points.

Coming in third were Falciah Gichomo and Rose Catherine managing a score of 40 stableford points, beating Mary Kabuga and M Miingi to a fourth place with 40 stableford points based on countback.

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Chairman Rosemary M'kok and Lady Captain Munyao were placed fifth with 40 stableford points.

In the Subsidiary category, Anko George Wakaba and J Nderitu playing off handicap 5, claimed the win with 35 stableford points.

Meanwhile at Thika Sports Club, the Wakili Golf Day attracted a field of 217 golfers.

John Njoroge, playing off a handicap 25, secured the overall title with an impressive score of 44 stableford points.

Wanjau Gathuri, playing handicap 16, won the Men's winner prize with a score of 41 stableford points, followed by Mike Mwenda in second place with 39 stableford points.

In the Ladies' category, Lucy Maina claimed the winner's prize with 41 stableford points, while Veronica Wanjiku secured second place based on a countback, also with a score of 41 stableford points.

Among the sponsors, Wanoko Njoroge stood out with 34 stableford points, playing off handicap 30, followed by Chiuri Wachira with 33 stableford points. The Guest winner was Crispin Sankale, who achieved a commendable score of 46 stableford points.

The Supplementary winner, playing off handicap 44, was Amos Kinuthia, who posted 41 stableford points. The Junior prize was won by Jamie Gakobo upon posting 356 stableford points.

Wilson Njega (23 points) and Margaret Maina (20 points) won the First and Second Nines respectively.

In the Longest Drive contest, Joshua Kamwere took the men's division, while Diana Chepng'eno won in the Ladies' category. Wanjau Gathuri was awarded the Nearest to the Pin prize.
