The lush, green and pristine Ruiru Sports Club is already a cocktail of activities as the par 72 golf course prepares to host over 300 players from Nairobi and its environs for the grand Lady Captain's Prize this Saturday.

Lady captain Rhoda Mukami and veteran hard-hitter Margaret Maina are among the charges who are already sharpening their claws on the fairways to perfect their swings for the ultimate weekend showdown.

Hundreds of players are already competing in the week-long build up matches at the club before the grand event on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the players took part in the Seniors Swing contest, a mini golf tournament that aimed to honour all the veteran players and their immense contributions and achievements to the club.

On Wednesday, the participants will show compassion and support to newborn babies and their mothers at the Ruiru Hospital before the players return to the fairways on Friday for the Valentine Day Mixed Foursome double where all participants are required to adorn red and white for the day, with an elegant dress code in the evening.

"Everyone is preparing for the tournament in the best way they can, everyone is dreaming of victory because of the exciting prizes in wait," Mukami told Standard sports.

"Our focus this year, as a club, is to continue elevating the quality of the game. We want our players to be great forces to reckon with in both home and away matches. This year, we have embodied the spirit of being united, growing stronger, achieving more, and fostering a vibrant golfing community."

Maina is glad that players are already turning up in numbers to take part in the build up matches ahead of the weekend's tournament. She already feels fit and hopeful that she will triumph in the coveted Lady Captain's prize.

"I have worked on my strategy and the results during the week are already encouraging," she underlined.

"As seniors, we are elated to be part of the Lady Captain's Prize tournament. The contest is a true testament to the value the lady captain and the club have attached to the veterans, whose role is to pave the way for budding golf enthusiasts to take up responsibilities at the club."

The Lady Captain's Prize, themed 'Celebrating a year of dedication' will not only be a tournament but also a networking forum owing to the quality of entries confirmed.

The championship is meant to shine a spotlight on the leadership and achievement of Mukami whose one-year tenure in office saw the club host prestigious games and nailed significant victories, both home and away.

"We are glad that we have received immense support ahead of the tournament including from Kingdom Bank, Madison Group, Samena Group, Parworld Golf, Croton Motors, Fantom Estates, Tesla Service Limited, and Zenko Kenya, East Africans Study in Germany and Costwise Electricals Ltd," Mukami stated.
