Ladak fires 71 nett to win Kerrs memorial tourney at Vet Labs

In keeping with age-old traditions, Vet Labs Sports Club's past captain hosted the Fred and Phillipa Kerr Memorial tournament over the weekend.

In memory of the Kerrs' enduring legacy, contributed greatly to the club's history and impacted deeply, within the club's community over the years.

Fred served as the Club Captain in 1967 having joined in the early 1960s'.

As a greenkeeper, he played a pivotal role in enhancing the Vet Lab course, then a modest nine-hole layout. The two croton (Mukinduri)trees planted by Fred and his beloved wife Phillipa near bee box number one, stand as their enduring symbols on the course.

Described by those who knew him as an affable gentleman.

His former caddy, Francis Kamanu said, "His cool demeanor reflected the trust and respect that he garnered from fellow members. He had a remarkable character coupled with unwavering dedication to the club."

During the daylong meet delivered by the former skippers, youngster Kahir Ladak, shot a round total of 71 nett playing off handicap 20 to bag the overall title and earn the bragging rights.

To deny the eventual Men winner, Boniface Mungai, the honors on a countback. Mungai, playing off handicap 11, also returned with a score of 71 nett.

Handicap 8, Permenas Okemwa brought back a score of 73 nett to take the Men's winner second prize.

Veteran lady golfer, Esther Chumo, was declared the Lady winner with a score of 78 nett. Joyce Kioko, playing off handicap 22, was the Lady winner second also on a score of 78 nett.

Hiral Shah, playing off handicap 13, was the Best Sponsor prize winner with a 72 nett.

Six twos were registered by Mukesh Bector (8), Joyce Murigi (6), Adam Nyaga (8-16), Solomon Atsiaya (8), Nelson Nyoike (16) and Francis Wahome (15).
