Ngugi wins Mwanyagetinge meet at Railway course

Evergreen senior golfer Ngugi Njuguna, fired a round total of 37 stableford to win Mwanyagetinge Golf Day at the Kenya Railway Golf Club (KRGC) course over the weekend.
Ngugi, playing off handicap 13, waded through the soggy course banking on his experience to floor the 100-plus golfers who participated in the tournament sponsored by golfers from the Kisii community to celebrate and appreciate their culture.
The first flight was delayed by over two hours due to heavy rains which rendered the course unplayable.
The name Mwanyagetinge is coined from "Egetinge", an anklet won by a legally married woman presented to them by their husbands.
Golfers and guests savored traditional delicacies from the Abagusii community, including traditional brew.
"As golfers from different communities, we should support such tournaments which enhance harmony amongst golfers," Jonathan Marucha, Chairman KRGC said.
Handicap 7, Adelbert Omooria, shot a round total of 36 stableford points to lift the men winner prize beating Men winner second Lawrence Kinyori on countback, also on a score of 36 stableford points.
Former lady captain Ruth Omwansa bagged the Lady winner prize with a score of 31 stableford points, followed by the lady winner second, Doris Knight, with a similar score of 31 stableford points.
Another Kisii tournament patron, Kepha Bosire, emerged as the guest winner on a score of 33 stableford points.
Leading the sponsors was Ben Nyamongo upon carding a score of 34 stableford points to bag the sponsor winner prize. Jimmy Semenye won the junior prize with a score of 27 stableford points.
The gross prize was won by Francis Kimanzi who posted 28 gross points off handicap 1.
In the commercials, the nearest to pin men winner prize was won by, Anthony Kiragu, while the nearest to pin lady winner prize was won by Doris Knight on the par-three sixth hole.
Walter Onyino won the longest drive men prize with lady captain Ruth Mwangi winning the longest drive lady winner prize.
Two twos were recorded by Ndung'u Nderitu (17) and Antony Kiragu (6) with each receiving 12 golf balls.
