Magical Kenya Ladies Open: Kenyans miss the cut as Strom maintains lead

It was day to forget for Kenya's lady golfers yesterday as they missed the cut as Sweden’s Linnea Strom maintained the lead in Day two of the ongoing Magical Kenya Ladies Open tournament at the par 72 PGA rated Vipingo Baobab Ridge Golf Course in Kilifi County.
Strom returned a 2 over par 73 gross for total round of a 3 under par 141 gross to stay top of the leader board going to round three this morning.
“It was windy today and the greens was playing tight, but it was fine and hope to play well in the next rounds,” said Strom, who sank three birdies with twelve level pars against a mixed pot of bogey shots both nines yesterday.
Hot in her pursuit was Italy’s Nuria Iturrioz who closed the day second on a round total of level par 144 gross, three strokes behind.
Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama, Naomi Wafula, Bhavi Shah and Faith Chemutai were unfortunately among the 31 golfers out 94 who missed the cut.
Nyanchama finished in 74th position on a round total of a 14 over par 158 gross (79-79).
Wafula with a 20 over par total of 164gross tied in 90th place with France’s Marion Duvernay and Denmark’s Linette Littau Durr Holmslykke.
The county’s only lady professional golfer Bhavi Shah from Nyali Golf and Country Club finished in 93rd place with a round score of a 36 over par 180gross and Chemutai was in 94th place with 39 over par total of 183gross.
The Magical Kenya Ladies Open that started on Wednesday is being sponsored by the Government of Kenya through Magical Kenya, Ministry of Sports, Sports Fund, Huawei, Johnnie Walker, Safaricom’s M-Pesa and Centum among others and organized by U.Com Event and Vipingo Ridge.
It is a four-day 71-hole event and the season opener in the 2022 European Ladies Tour (LET) calendar that attracted 94 golfers.
Those who made the cut sailed to the third rounds today and the final fourth rounds tomorrow to battle for a prize money estimated at Sh38.8 million.
