Standard Group County Classic: Time for tee off as 230 golfers battle for top honours in Nyali

Over 230 golfers are expected to compete in the Standard Group County Classic golf tournament that begins today at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club, in Mombasa.
Club chairman Taib Bajaber, who was in a training session with other club members yesterday, said all preparations has been finalised and the championship course is ready for the big event.
“By Wednesday, evening, about 176 golfers had registered but going by the number of requests we are receiving, the entries will definitely increase to over 230. We are really excited and looking forward to the tournament and thank the Standard Group for bringing the event to Nyali once more,”said Bajaber.
The day-long 18-hole stableford event is being sponsored by the Standard Group Limited under the theme “On the course for the green cause.”
The morning action starts from 7am with the team of Njoroge. K, Stokes Susan, Kisaka .G, Oyaro Truphena at the First Tee, while from 7.20am, Nazerali .S, Mariga Mary, Kaguru. J and a Post Entry will be teeing off from the 10th Tee off.
The afternoon group at the first Tee from 12.08pm will be Gitonga. J, Githaiga .T, Ombura .M and Thama George. The tenth Tee from the same time has Wambua.F(S), Muringi.M (G) and Iraki.X. N (G).
Standard Group Limited Chief Executive Officer Orlando Lyomu, who is also a member of Limuru Golf Club, will be teeing off from the first tee at 1:12pm alongside Taib Bajaber, Kaburu J. S, and veteran golfer Johnson Wamunyua.
According to the condition of play, the tournament is open to all golfing members of the home club, Mombasa GC, Leisure,Vipingo and Malindi Golf Clubs.
It’s also open to guests of the sponsor with valid World Handicapping System (WHS) handicap indices, while nominated juniors and club markers are permitted to play subject to the captain’s discretion.
Winning of prizes will be limited to participants with valid WHS handicaps 28 and below for men and 36 and below for ladies. Winners with higher handicaps will have a special prize category.
Lateness on the tee will incur a two-point deduction. Lateness of five minutes and more will result in automatic disqualification.
Dress code during the prize presentation is smart casual for all including juniors.
