Ng'ang'a, Matumo shine in Starehe Girls Charity Golf Day Tournament

Hilda Ng'ang'a and Maurice Matumo are the winners of the 2023 Starehe Girls Centre Charity Golf tournament held at Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club on Friday.

Ng'ang'a, playing off handicap 34, fired 44 Stableford points to claim the ladies overall prize.

Tasneem Padamshi, playing off handicap 17 posted 39 points to emerge ladies runners up.

Padamshi also went home with the ladies Nearest to the Pin and the Longest Drive awards.

The men's overall award went to handicap 28 player Matumo who carded 40 points.

Matumo beat Michael Flint (handicap 16) who scored 38 points to bag men's second place.

In the men's Longest drive category, Karugu Macharia lifted the top prize, while Daniel Mwangi walked away with the Nearest to the Pin award.

The fifth edition of the tournament brought together 100 golfers from in and out of the country to raise funds for Starehe Girls Centre (SGC) to sponsor and maintain 800 students at the institution.

The SGC was established in 2005 by visionary men and women driven by their passion to see girls from less fortunate families empowered with good education to equip them into becoming Kenya's future leaders.

Corporate who supported the noble cause includes the East Africa Re-Insurance, Chandaria Foundation, Bimeda Ltd Kenya, Movenpick, Sankara, Hemingways, Taita Hills Salt Lick, Del Monte, Riz Charania, Grace Madoka and Past & Present.

The funds will help the needy in all the 47 counties.

This is a good initiative, through unity we can achieve a lot, " the SGC Director Jane Soita underlined.

Tournament patron Eddie Day reiterated that the school hosts less privileged students across the country and it is their agenda to help them achieve equal learning opportunities with other students.
