Red-hot striker Erick Kapaito scored his 22nd goal of the season as Kariobangi Sharks defeated defending champions Gor Mahia 2-1 in a tight Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Thika Stadium on Wednesday.

Kapaito's penalty in the opening half and Robert Onyango's goal in the final half saw Sharks complete a first time double over the champions. Substitute Jules Ulimwengu scored Gor's consolation goal deep in the 90th minute.

Sharks had earlier on thrashed Gor 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller match during the first leg played earlier this year in January.

The victory saw Sharks leapfrog AFC Leopards into third on 44 points.

Kapaito's goal cemented his lead at the top scorers' chart on 22 goals, eight ahead of AFC Leopards’ Elvis Rupia.

Kapaito is now four goals shy of the 15-year-old standing record of 26 goals scored by former Tusker star Boniface Ambani.

Gor remained fifth on 40 points after the defeat as their winless run stretched to six games.

Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz five match unbeaten run came to an end in Nakuru after Wazito narrowly edged them out 1-0 in a match played at ASK Showground.

Whyvonne Isuza last minute goals saw the money bags return to winning ways after failing to win in their last two matches.

Wazito oved to joint sixth with Nairobi City Stars with 38 points after the win as Homeboyz remained ninth with 34 points.
