Erick Kapaito scored his 19th goal of the season as Kariobangi Sharks thumped Posta Rangers 3-0 in an entertaining FKF Premier League match played at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.

In-form Kapaito is now shy of the 20 goal mark. Only Boniface Ambani, Jesse Were and Allan Wanga have scored more than 20 goals in a single season with each netting 26, 21 and 23 goals respectively in the years 2006, 2016 and 2007.

Patilla Omotto scored a brace to add to Kapaito’s goal as Sharks now sit a point behind defending champions Gor Mahia.

Sharks are currently fifth in the standings with 38 points, 12 points behind league leaders Tusker who have played a game less.

In the match, Kapaito gave Sharks the lead in the fifth minute after Michael Apudo handled in the box with the league top scorer easily slotting past a helpless Kevin Opiyo.

Six minutes later, Francis Nambute missed a chance to pull Rangers level after beating the Sharks defense with some good dribbling skills but his shot went straight at Brian Olango in goal.

Nambute would come close again with a chance to get Rangers an equalizer after he deflected Jackson Dwang's effort at goal but the ball luckily hits Olango's feet before going out for a corner.

Sharks would however respond to Rangers numerous attacks by scoring through Omotto moments before halftime to stretch the lead to 2-0.

In the final half, Rangers attempted to get back into the game but Sharks would seal the lead in the end as Omotto bagged his second of the day to seal a comfortable 3-0 win.

Rangers remain 16th after the loss with 26 points.
