Newbies Kisumu Hot Stars returned to the top four in the National Super League (NSL) standings after narrowly edging out Kibera Black Stars 2-1 in an entertaining match played at Moi Stadium in Kisumu over the weekend.

Crispin Mariga first-half opener and Charles Adika late goal was enough to hand ‘Opuk’ their fifth win of the season.

Speaking to Standard Sports, Hot Stars captain Fredrick Odongo said the team is now focusing on improving their away form by winning their midweek match against Muranga Seals.

“We have not been performing well away from home but with the recent adjustment we have made tactically, we are confident we can start getting maximum points from home,” said Odongo.

The win took Kisumu Hot Stars to joint third in the table standings with 17 points from 10 matches. Other teams in third position include Kisumu All Stars and Fortune Sacco who have two games in hand.

In Kisii, Kenya Police returned to the summit of the NSL after edging out Shabana FC 2-1 at Gusii Stadium.

The win took Police three points above Talanta with 22 points, with the latter missing in action due to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup action.

Soy United moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw in their game against APS Bomet but they are still not out of the woods as they currently logged in at position 17 with nine points.
