Bandari coach Cassa Mbungo says his three-year contract is to ensure the team is back playing continental football, but first they will have to fight to lift the Football Kenya Federation-Premier League (FKF-PL) title and the Shield Cup.

“My three-year project is to see Bandari play in continental championships,” Mbungo said.

Bandari represented the country in the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the FKF Shield Cup and wanted to repeat the good show last year, but the continental body suspended all tournaments after the Covid-19 breakout.

Bandari's sojourn in the CAF competition was ended after losing 5-2 on aggregate to Guinean side Horoya AC in the play-off stage.

The Dockers lost 4-2 in the first leg in Conakry, and suffered a 1-0 defeat at home in the return leg played at Kasarani Stadium. The Mombasa-based team has represented the country twice in the CAF Confederation Cup

Last year they reached the last 16 of the FKF Shield Cup and were due to face Sofapaka in a match that did not take off after the federation suspended all football activities due to disruption caused by coronavirus pandemic.

After a slow start in 2020/21 FKF-PL, Mbungo says his players have shown the seriousness they need to return to the continental stage.

“We have been producing positive results in the Premier League and hope to translate this good to the FKF Shield Cup. I have a duty to deliver good results at Bandari,” said the Rwandese.

Team Technical Director Twahir Muhiddin said the team is raring to go.
