There was joy at the Makueni Remand Women prison on the weekend, after a section of inmates completed training in different skills.

The inmates have been on a three-month training, to equip them with skills they can use as a source of livelihood skills after serving their jail term.

The program has organised and funded by a Kajiado Christian-based group (Ignite Revival Ministry) through strategic partnerships, providing adequate skills in Hairdressing and Beauty to the inmates.

''Our God is great I finally have a certificate, and I'm already armed with hairdressing skills, after my jail term I will open a saloon and a beauty parlor in our home town'' said Jacinta Mwende one of the inmates.

Speaking during the event, the outgoing officer in charge of the facility David Sakwa applauded the Christian-based organisation, saying the program has given hope to many inmates in the institution.

''We wish you all the best in life, as you graduate today, I request u to take your course seriously so that when you leave here you will be a different person'' he added.

According to the church's founder, Mary Ann Kariuki, the ministry was also implementing a number of activities such as the donation of tailoring machines and equipment, a fully equipped Public Address system, humanitarian support, and also spiritual rehabilitation.

''We are very grateful to have empowered these women with skills that will help them get jobs when they leave here, we realized that many of them have lost hope in life and they need to be supported'' said Kariuki.
