Ladies and gentlemen, get your tickets ready because the third leg of the 2022 Standard County Golf Classic Series heads to ‘Yurop’ tomorrow.

Winam Gulf or Kisumu City, if you like it, will host the high profile tournament at the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club.

The championships, whose theme is ‘On the green course, for the green cause’ has already attracted over 100 players from the lakeside town and it’s environs with more registering for the tournament.

“Apart from Kisumu, we already have competitors from Kisii, Kakamega, Kericho and the Royal Nairobi golf clubs who have confirmed their participation,” Nyanza Golf Club captain Ojwang Lusi told Standard Sports.

Lusi, who will be playing off handicap 15 and Kisumu County Deputy Governor Mathew Owili are some of the contestants who will battle for honours in the championships.

The duo has been training at the nine-hole golf course ahead of the weekend showpiece.

“We are projecting the contest to be an uphill task, nonetheless, we are expecting a successful competition at the weekend,” Lusi said.

Local carrier Jambojet has already availed various destination return tickets to be won during the tournament.

Other partners on board are Space and Style which is a manufacturer of the innovative Asili roofing and water harvesting and distribution solutions, FMD East Africa which is a distributor of farm machinery and Mediheal Group of Hospitals which will conduct a free medical clinic at the club during the contest.

Lusi has assured contestants of a pristine course that is so well maintained.

“The temperatures here will be conducive, it will be cool, no heavy rains expected,” he said.

However, he is advising the golfers to be wary of hole seven whose water and bunker barriers will be apiece of work to tackle.

The contestants will also have to navigate their balls over River Kisat that meanders through a section of the course before emptying its waters into the adjacent Lake Victoria.

For adrenaline rush lovers, this will be your moment!

Expect some hair raising experience in some of the tees where every well struck shot will be met by some approval grants by the hippos taking their midday slumber.

Apart from the game, the visiting players can enjoy some deep fried fish accompanied by traditional vegetables at the club.

The chattering of monkeys too will not go unnoticed while sipping your favourite drink at the venue.

It will also be so therapeutic to watch the sun rise and set over the imposing lake during the tournament.

Cool breeze from the waters, the carpet green grass and lots of trees shades will also make the competition worthwhile.

Lusi believes the tournament will give Standard Group PLC a great chance to meet and interact with some of their clients spread across the lake region.
