Kenya's Yego reconciles with athletics chiefs ahead of Tokyo Olympics

Kenya’s javelin thrower Julius Yego has reconciled with National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) officials ahead of the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
Yego met with General Team Manager Barnaba Korir and Acting Secretary General Francis Mutuku on Friday and vowed to stay focussed and prepare adequately ahead of the Games in Tokyo.
The javelin star also promised to continue supporting the U20 field and tracks events slated for August 17-22 in Kenya.
The NOCK chiefs on their part stressed the importance of resolving disputes amicably as athletes need clear minds ahead of big competitions.
They further promised to support Yego and all athletes ahead of competitions this year.
“Having worked together beyond Olympics, Yego is fully supporting the U20 Field and track events championships.
“We as the management, have assured not only Yego but all athletes total support and opened channels of communications to allow challenges arising as we countdown to the big event, resolved amicably,” said Francis Mutuku.
Yego's coach Joseph Mosonik was also in attendance.
The javelin star has only competed twice in 2021 returning under par performance with 67.70m throw during Athletics Kenya Pre-Trials, Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, on May 28.
His 75.58m throw during the Olympic Games Trials at Kasarani on June 19 pales in comparison with his German rival Johannes Vetter who hit a season-best of 96.29m in Chorzów Poland on May 29. Vetter followed it with 93.59m at Kuortane Games, in Finland, on June 26 and 92.14 in Luzern Switzerland on June 29.
Yego vowed to work harder and train effectively for positive results in Tokyo.
