National women football team, Harambee Starlets, overwhelmed Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 6-0 in a friendly match played yesterday at Kasarani Stadium.

Winnie Kanyoti grabbed a brace with Ines Mango, Mary Kinuthia, Caroline Anyango and Neddy Atieno scoring a goal each to complete the rout. From the first whistle, Starlets appeared an organised side with Neddy Atieno opening the scores in the 19th minute after missing a couple of chances.

Starlets dominated much of the proceedings with the Thomas Lihanda coached MMUST side appearing fatigued.

The Kakamega-based side had travelled the previous night. The match acted as a build up ahead of Kenya’s clash with Algeria in the first leg of the second round of Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday. — Rebecca Jebet
