National women’s football team, Harambee Starlets have stepped up their preparation for the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers against Democratic Republic of Congo.

The team started training on Wednesday at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani ahead of the first round qualifier set for Nairobi on March 5.

Head coach David Ouma has given eight players their first call up to the national team.

Ouma said the morale is high in the camp because of the way the federation has treated  the players.

“I thank the federation for their co-operation. So far they have given us everything we need.

“The organisation is good and players have been motivated because of how they have been treated. It is now our duty to do the rest,” said Ouma.

The tactician who also doubles up as the coach of Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka intimated that they are currently accessing the players’ fitness levels as they have been out of action for a long time.

“I am contended with the depth of team so far. We have all the capabilities of winning the first leg encounter because we have an added advantage of playing at home,” he said.
