Why SONU campaigns this year will have less hype

As the SONU election date draws nearer, one thing is clear on the minds of all comrades within and outside the University of Nairobi.
One person is missing. Babu Owino. The most flamboyant SONU Chairman of recent years, his absence in this year's SONU campaigns has greatly been felt. And his absence from the SONU in the coming years will be greatly felt.
Under his stewardship, comrades ate and enjoyed mercilessly. His campaigns were one of a kind, and the bar that he set forced his opponents to prepare adequately, financially and in terms of propaganda, in order to mount any meaningful challenge.
Still, he won despite allegations of massive rigging from his opponents.
As we prepare to see who shall be the new face of SONU, we can only hope that the new change of guard, will be able to fit his shoes and fight for student rights like he did.
Even if many would blame him for the violent riots, we can only blame the government for making everyone believe that, that is the only way to get the to listen to the people.
All the best to the SONU aspirants. Meanwhile, we also wish Babu Owino all the best in his quest for Embakasi East member of parliament seat.
