Passaris joins celebs in peace campaign Philanthropic investor Esther Passaris is supporting local musicians in their newly launched peace campaign.

The campaign unveiled on Friday aims at uniting Kenyans and educating young people on civic rights.

Passaris donated one million shillings to the fund and said besides the money, she would actively participate in the project together with her daughter, a rising musician.

“I think young people especially musicians who are opinion shapers have a major role in uniting Kenyans,” she told MondayBlues.

“If young people make majority votes in the country, their role models should be given a chance to speak to their peers,” she added.

The six-month-long campaign is fronted by over 300 artistes affiliated to the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) among them Nameless, Nonini, Amani, Wahu, Frasha and Lady B.

Speaking to MondayBlues, MCSK chief executive officer Maurice Okoth said the campaign will be a nationwide affair.

“It is wrong for politicians to use celebrities as crowd pullers in the political campaigns especially when the politicians are acting contrary to what their followers believe,” Maurice said.

“We don’t have to wait for politicians to tell us who to vote for. Besides, we are opinion leaders and we should be key players in calling for peace and unity in the country,” Nameless said.
